Wellbeing and Mental Health project
About this project
Bristol Somali Resource Centre (BSRC) Mental Health and Wellbeing Project:
• 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience mental health problems each year.
• 1 in 6 adults in England will have experienced a common mental health problem (such as depression and anxiety) in the past week.
• Bristol Quality of Life Survey in 2020/21, shows that 20% of Bristol residents reported 'below average mental wellbeing' with the figure rising to 34 per cent in most deprived areas (up from 21% last year).
The aim of the BSRC Mental Health and Wellbeing project:
The aim the project is to enhance the mental health and general wellbeing of the people of Somali origin and heritage but not exclusively who are living and/or working in Bristol.
The sessions will be confidential (in line with GDPR) and culturally appropriate.
How the Mental Support will be delivered:
Mental Health and wellbeing support sessions will be delivered over the telephone and via the zoom. Occasional face to face will be provided when safe to do by following Covid-19 rules. Also, regular group sessions of psychoeducational programmes/events are delivered over the zoom.
We use evidence-based approach/techniques such Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches to enable people understand their mental health, source of their emotional struggles and useful learn ways to improve their wellbeing.
