ESOL courses for Somali women
Somali women can often be isolated at home with small children. This project aims to help them acquire better English Language skills which will open both social and economic opportunities for them.
This is a partnership project between the Somali Resource Centre and Bristol Centre for Linguistics (UWE, Bristol). The aim of the project is to meet the practical daily communicative needs of the Somali women, with classes on 'Getting to know you', 'At the doctor's' and 'Talking to teachers'. Student volunteers help develop and deliver learning materials, leading to increased confidence and independent excursions.
